Rehabilitation stays are a crucial element for many people with disabilities to improve their quality of life and daily functioning. Unfortunately, the costs associated with participating in such trips may be unattainable for some. That's why the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons (PFRON) offers the possibility of obtaining financial support for a rehabilitation stay. In this article, you will learn how to go through the entire process of applying for financial support for a rehabilitation stay with PFRON.

1. What is PFRON, and what are its goals?

The State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons (PFRON) is an institution whose main goal is to support activities for people with disabilities. The fund aims to finance programs, projects, and other forms of support that contribute to improving the quality of life and the integration of disabled individuals into society. One such form of support is the co-financing of rehabilitation stays.

2. Who can apply for co-financing of a rehabilitation stay with PFRON?

Co-financing for a rehabilitation stay with PFRON can be obtained by any disabled person who meets the following criteria:

  • Has a disability certificate or degree of disability,
  • Has not received PFRON co-financing for a rehabilitation stay in the last 12 months,
  • Resides in Poland.

3. What types of rehabilitation stays are eligible for co-financing?

PFRON offers co-financing for rehabilitation stays in various forms, such as:

  • Stays for disabled children and youth,
  • Stays for employed disabled persons,
  • Stays for non-working disabled individuals,
  • Stays for self-employed disabled persons.

4. What are the steps to obtain co-financing for a rehabilitation stay with PFRON?

Step 1 - Registration for a rehabilitation stay

To apply for co-financing for a rehabilitation stay with PFRON, you must first find a suitable stay and make a preliminary reservation (you will attach the reservation confirmation to the application later). Details about rehabilitation stays by the sea organized by Szlak Bursztynowy can be found here. Reservations for rehabilitation stays are accepted at 59 814 60 57. We also provide assistance in obtaining co-financing.

Step 2 - Completing the co-financing application

Next, you need to complete the co-financing application for a rehabilitation stay. The application should include information about the disabled person, the type of stay, the organizer, and the participation costs. It is worth noting that, in the vast majority of cases, co-financing applications should be submitted not directly to the PFRON branch but through the PCPR (District Family Assistance Center) or MOPS (Municipal Social Welfare Center) relevant to your place of residence.

Applications can be downloaded from the PFRON website, filled out online on the SOW platform, or obtained from the local PCPR or MOPS office.

Step 3 - Collecting documents

The following documents must be attached to the co-financing application:

  • disability certificate or degree of disability,
  • agreement with the organizer of the rehabilitation stay (or reservation confirmation),
  • certificate of not receiving PFRON co-financing for a rehabilitation stay in the last 12 months (if applicable).

Step 4 - Submitting the application and documents

The completed application along with the required documents must be submitted in person or sent by mail to the relevant unit that handles co-financing approvals (PCPR, MOPS). Application submission deadlines are announced on the website of the local institution, the Fund, and in PFRON branches.

Step 5 - Waiting for a decision

After submitting the application, wait for the PFRON decision. The decision to grant co-financing is based on criteria specified by the Fund, such as the degree of disability, the financial situation of the person applying for support, and the availability of funds.

Step 6 - Receiving co-financing

If the application is positively reviewed, PFRON will grant co-financing for the rehabilitation stay. The amount of co-financing depends on the individual situation of the disabled person and the type of stay. Co-financing can cover from approximately 40% to even 90% of the participation costs in the stay. Usually, this depends on the timing of the stay, with the most cost-effective stays organized in April and October. Co-financing constitutes 20% to 40% of the average remuneration in the economy.

5. Important information and tips

  • Co-financing for a rehabilitation stay with PFRON is granted once. After using co-financing, another application can only be submitted after 12 months.
  • Co-financing for a rehabilitation stay with PFRON does not exclude the possibility of obtaining support from other sources, such as funds from the National Health Fund (NFZ), local authorities, or non-governmental organizations. It is worth checking the available co-financing options and using them as much as possible.

·       If you receive co-financing for a rehabilitation stay, remember the obligation to submit a report on the course of the stay and document expenses. The report should be submitted within the specified period after the end of the stay, following PFRON requirements.

·       If you plan to participate in a rehabilitation stay with a caregiver, PFRON may also grant co-financing for their participation in the stay. In this case, include information about the caregiver and their participation costs in the co-financing application.

·       To increase the chances of obtaining co-financing for a rehabilitation stay with PFRON, take care to carefully fill out the application and collect all required documents. Adhering to procedures and deadlines precisely can lead to a faster application review and co-financing approval for the stay.

Obtaining co-financing for a rehabilitation stay with PFRON can significantly reduce the financial burden associated with participating in such a trip. Thanks to this, people with disabilities have the opportunity to improve their quality of life and enhance their functioning in society. It is worthwhile to learn about the procedures for applying for financial support from PFRON and take advantage of this opportunity. Remember that a well-completed application and the collection of all required documents increase the chances of obtaining co-financing.
